Post 9/11 GI Bill
A reason most of us initially joined the Marines was for the educational opportunities. The GI Bill as most of us know it has now been revamped. The new benefits are even better than they were before. The new benefits will allow a service member to go to school for FREE!!! (As long as the school they attend costs less than the highest public school at in-state tuition. Also you will have longer to use the benefits 15 years as opposed to 10. There will also be a monthly stipend for living expenses equal to the E-5 W/ dependants rate in the school’s zip code. Now the best part of the whole thing. You are able to transfer part or all of your benefits to your dependants once you have completed 10 years active service (or completed 6 years but reenlisted to put you over 10 years.) As you can see our congressmen actually do do things other than worry about baseball and steroids although that does get the majority of the headlines even though this new benefit will allow not only our generation but also our kids get the training and education that they deserve.

Looks good. I’ve been reading about this, but haven’t done too much research yet. Hopefully I can do something a little more comprehensive in a couple days. Personally, I’d love to quit work for a couple years - just to go back to school and get a stipend!
