Congrats to the SSgts
For those of you unaware the SSgt selection board released and approved selections were posted. MARADMIN 515/08 was released on 12 Sept and there were more than 3600 Sergeants selected for the rank of Staff Sergeant. Promotions will begin on October 1st of this year and will continue over the next year. I would like to extend my congratulations to all the Sergeants that were selcted.
Selection to SSgt is a huge accomplishment in the Marine Corps. 1st and foremost is means you will be able to make it to 20 years and get a retirement check. More importantly though is that you enter the Staff NCO ranks. Being a SNCO in the Marine Corps is quite an accomplishment. You have more responsiblitiy obviously but you are also now in the spot of trust and confidence with the Officers. Marine SNCO’s are the mainstay of the Marine Corps. We are responible for the proper training and mentoring of all Marines under our charge as well as the new officers that are appointed over us. SNCO’s ARE THE MARINE CORPS. If we fail at our job the Marine Corps will fail at its job.
Again Congratulations to all those selected and those with the high numbers be sure to keep your nose clean so that you can pin that rocker on even if it isn’t until June or July next year. Once you are promoted send me an invite to the wetdown because I can always use a beer.

Hello Jarhead
I also wish to add my congratulations to those who have been selected to receive the rank of Staff Sargent. They have worked hard and spent many hours in Classes to get the experience and knowledge on what is needed and expected.
You gentlemen/ladies are indeed some of this Country’s finest.
‘Jarhead’, I just found your site and will be going back into your archives so I can figure out how that intelligent mind looks at this world. From what I’ve read so far, I like the way you think.
