Friendly Neighborhood Reminder
Just a friendly reminder for all of you out there that the Marine Corps Ball season is just around the corner. That’s right it is October 1st and our birthday is 41 days away. If your command is like any that I have been in you are expecting to have your ball between the 1st and the 15th of Nov.
This is the only day of the year that most of us will wear the most recognizable uniform in the country. Everyone knows a Marine in his blues. So get into your closet and pull out the beloved dress blue uniform that you have hanging in there. It is time to put that sucker on and make sure that it fits. Make sure you took it to the cleaners after last years party.
Ensure that you have the correct rank insignia on your sleeves(especially if you got promoted) as well as the correct number of hashmarks (if you rate them ). Make sure that you have all the medals, ribbons, and devices that you need to have. Take the time or spend the money to get your medals mounted so that they look sharp. If you are a newly promoted NCO or SNCO ensure that you went out and got your new waist plate.
Now for those NCO’s once you have all your stuff squared away go out and make sure your Marines are set up for success. Make sure you do your inspections because you don’t want to be at the wrong end of an ass chewing by the 1stSgt or SgtMaj if your Marine is fucked up in his blues.
For all you married folk or those of you taking dates make sure you get your wife/GF set-up for success as well. Make sure they know this is a formal event and they are expected to act accordingly. Go out and get them a nice gown. Let them know that they will probably want to go to the hairstylist and get their hair done and to make appointments. Even though 6 weeks seems like a long time it will be here before you know it so start preparing now.
Last but not least go out and celebrate the Marines 233rd birhtday in the way that it was meant to be celebrated. Get your drink on. Have a good time. Be responsible. And most important buy your SSgt a beer he needs it from all the crap he has protected you from over the last year (Guinness preferably.)

Hey Jarhead…my Marine son will no doubt take his wife to his unit’s birthday bash, and as an AF-vet I doubt I’ll be invited to any of the celebrations around here…so, even though I won’t have a date, I will nevertheless raise one (in my case a bottle of water, not Guiness) in honor of you and all the wonderful Marines who have served or who are still serving. Marines everywhere deserve it! Besides, they do look sharp in those wonderful uniforms!!! And, if I ever do get to meet you in person, I’ll be sure to pay you the Guiness I owe you.

A gentle reminder to all the younger Marines – formal like a wedding at the fanciest church/country club in town with your parents and priest/pastor, not fancy like a prom/out clubbing.
Gals, remember, you’ll be meeting his BOSSES! Dress and behave appropriately!! – Classy sexy, not Skanky Sexy, ok? Watch the leg slits and the clevage! The Brass and their wives WILL watch YOU, too, and your behavior WILL impact their view of your guy. The wife/GF CAN have an impact on the promotability of the Marine!
CPLs and SGTs – make sure your young Marines have a clue about table manners if it’s a sit down dinner (vice a buffet). The Marine!Goth took a full formal place setting to class and did a demo when he was a cadet LOL. But a lot of these kids have never seen the whole multilple forks and spoons and glassware and linen napkins shebang and it’s better to be prepared .
