Obama is for military efforts in Afghanistan / Pakistan.  

Obama is simply making tough decisions since our nation is spending more money than we take in.  If we cease our hedgemonic national philosphy, we can afford the reductions he mentions.  

I think Obama may be a bit reminisint of President Eisenhower.  Remember, President Eisenhower warned against the Military Industrial Complex in his farewell speech:
