60 G for EOD
All you EOD people really need to check this out. MarAdmin 561/08 was released last Friday and it definitely will benefit all those Explosive Ordnance Disposal types. The Marine Corps must really be hurtin for EOD officers. EOD already has the highest re-enlistment bonus of upwards of 80 grand. Now the Corps is giving any 2336 that becomes a 2305 in FY09 another 60 grand.
To be eligible for the 60 grand you must be selected and appointed as a WO in the 2305 MOS during FY09. You have to graduate the Warrant Officer Basic Course and sign a statement agreeing to serve 4 years from the date of appointment. Upon submission of the statement of understanding you will be paid a $60,000 lump sum bonus.
Acceptance of the bonus will not result in a recoupment of a re-enlistment bonus. Marines that are assigned to Marine Special Forces Command in receipt of a Critical Skills Retention Bonus will be required to repay any unearned portion of the bonus per their CSRB agreement.
I knew I should have become EOD when I did my latmove in 1999. Hell I would have made a lot more money than I have as an electronics technician. Although I still have all my fingers and toes and messing up at my job won’t get me and others blown to nothing so maybe I did make the right choice.

Jarhead,
$60,000 bonus to me does NOT sound like it is enough. The risks are extremely high and I bet the pay scale is not all that great. BUT HEY, the adventure of living on the edge with an adrenalin high is priceless. Also, ulcers have a good chance to come with the territory which is a large goose egg. {Those are no fun–had one. UGGGGhhhhh!}
I am glad that you did choose the MOS that you did because I may have not had the chance to begin to know a great Marine. The chances of a KaBoooooom or an OOOOPppps in that OED are more likely to cause damage of the irrepairable type than one in the MOS that you are doing.
O-kay. Read the 3rd paragraph 3 times and it still did not make a whole lot of sense. I must be missing something since I am a civilian. In the line of work that I do there are no bonus in the manner that you are speaking of in that paragraph. Could you give me a bit of clarification so my OLD/dusty/itty-bitty brain can see the light of the day? If you can Thanks. If you can’t….then don’t loose any sleep over it because I will keep worring after it like a ‘dog with a bone’. Maybe, I will be able to pick-it apart with time.
To a true Knight of Honor from a greatful Civilian –
THANK YOU for hearing the whispers of the Warriors of the Past as they called to the Warrior Blood that flows threw your veins
