Congrats to the New Warrant Officers
MarAdmin 566/08 was released today announcing the approved selections to Warrant Officer. I would like to extend my congratulations to the Marines that were selected. Promotion to Warrant Officer is a great accomplishment.
Warrant Officers are the link between enlisted Marines and the Commissioned Officers. Warrant Officers are the Subject Matter Experts (SME) in their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). MOS’s that have Warrant Officers are your technical jobs (Mechanics, Repairmen, Technicians Etc). Basically jobs that one would have to do for awhile to become proficient (no 2nd Lts leading here).
To be eligible for WO a Marines must have served between 8 and 16 years and be in the ranks of Sergeant through Gunnery Sergeant. Marines that were selected will continue to wear their rank until they report to the Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) in February. Once they check in they will be promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer on Feb 2nd 2009.
This is a great honor for these Marines and I hope that all of reading this extend your congratulations to all on the list.

Jarhead,
I have seen the Rank of WO in the Marines listing of Rank and could Not figure out why the Corps would need that Rank. Well after a bit, I thought it might have something to do with all those years that your were the enforcers for the Navy because I thought that the Navy had WOs since the begining.
Now with this posting I have a better understanding of what a WO is, what he does, and how much is entailed in getting this Rank.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE NEW WOs!!!!
