Congrats to the new Sergeants Major and Master Gunnery Sergeants

In the middle of last week MarAdmin 615/08, Approved Selections to Sergeant major and Master Gunnery Sergeant, was released. I would like to extend my congratulations to each and every one that was selected.

Selection to SgtMaj and MGySgt is quite an accomplishment. The majority of these Marines are eligible for retirement but have continued to sacrifice for the country as well as the good of the Corps. Please help me in congratulating these Marines

My congratulations to all the NEW Sergeant-Majors and Master Gunnery Sergeants on their promotions.

I went to the list and noticed the MOS 8999 listed with all the Sergeant-Majors.
Civilian question to a Marine SNCO — just what is MOS 8999??

MOS 8999 is the MOS for a SgtMaj. Once you are selected for 1stSgt you become an 8999.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question and helping me to learns something new today. It now makes a lot of sense to me as to why they all have the same MOS number ID.
