December Cutting Scores
Cutting Scores for promotion to Corporal and Sergeant have been released for December. Hopefully your hard work and dedication have paid off and you have the score and are getting promoted. If not keep working and you will get there Marine.
As I wrote in an earlier article about calculating your composite score the most common way for a Marine to get promoted is to work hard and build a composite score higher than peers so that you get promoted to the next rank. Once you have the rank you must be recommended by your command to pin on that extra stripe.
By default Marines are recommended for promotion. Reasons not to be recommended include but are not limited to failure to qualify with the rifle, failure of a PFT, being out of weight standards, or recent/pending disciplinary action. Also to get promoted to the rank of corporal you must have completed the Leading Marines MCI. Currently there are no MCI requirements for promotion to the rank of Sgt.
So again I say congrats to those young Marines whose hard work and dedication have enabled them to earn their next stripe. Continue the hard work and know that the NCO is the backbone of the Marine Corps and Sergeant is the best rank that you will ever have.
