W-2’s are now available on MyPay for completion of your tax forms.  One of the worst things that I see Marines doing is going out to the local tax place and paying to get get the money that is owed to them.

Going down to Liberty Tax or any of these other places to do taxes to get your money today is a waste.  In fact tax return anticipation loans are worse than payday loans.  the rates that are charged are astronomical.  It is just a plain waste of money.

Doing your own taxes is a fairly simple process.  Go down to the library and get the books and forms and follow the instructions.  Most of the Marines that I know only need to fill out a 1040 EZ form or the 1040 A if you have children.

If you don’t want to take responsibility of doing your own taxes you can visit the VITA office on base where a volunteer will help you with your taxes.  Also there are plenty of tax software programs that you can use to do your taxes (I use turbo tax).

Once you have completed your tax return all you need to do is E-file.  E-file will get you your return in 7-10 days direct deposited into your bank account.  This is a great tool and I recommend that everyone do it.
