Marine Corps
February 23 marked the 44th anniversary of the most recognizable photo from WWII, the raising of the flag on Mt Suribachi, during the battle for Iwo Jima
Navy Secretary Forrestal, thrilled by the sight,
turned to Holland Smith and said, “the raising of that flag means a
Marine Corps for another five hundred years.’

One of my all-time favorite images, thanks for recognizing its anniversary. Of course, any FMF corpsman worth his salt recognizes Doc Bradley in that picture, and it always leads me to think of my shipmates out in harm’s way saving green lives. Nope, there’s no insurance when you join the Navy as a corpsman that you will serve Blue Side!
Thank God… I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else. Best job in the Navy.
Semper,
Jerry
