UPDATE TIME

First I would like to take a second and thank the Flyboy (my brother) for throwing up a quick post for me. It actually was pretty good because I am just about done with all my CC debt. By the time I get out of this beautiful place I might even be out of debt all togeher (Mortgage doesn’t count.)

No on to the good stuff. It only took me a week from the time I left to get from California to the place I will call home for the next 7 or so months. Things here could be worse I guess. I mean I have running water and a DFAC (chow hall) so I can’t complain too much. Most of our boys are living in small FOBs eating MRE’s all day.

Got myself a pretty good routine and with there only being 5 of us or so here from my command don’t have to deal with all the BS that comes with being around the HQ platoon. Basically I get up get some breakfast then do whatever I gotta do til lunch. After that its a quick catnap then off to the gym, shower and then dinner. After that I waste time doing whatever (reading/watching movies etc) then off to bed and do it all over again.

So just wanted to let you all know that I’m safe and bored (don’t need excitement in a war zone). Hope everyone has a great summer I’m sure it will be better than mine.

It’s That Time Again

It really is amazing how fast my time seems to be dropping from the top of the hourglass down to the bottom. It will be April here in a just over 24 hours and that is a good thing for alot of Marines. You see enlisted promotions happen either the 1st of the month or if you are a stellar performer and are head and shoulders above the rest you can be promoted meritoriously on the 2nd.

On that note I would like to put the links here for the Cpl and Sgt cutting scores and congratulate those Marines that have made the cut for April.

December Cutting Scores

It is getting close to the end of the month and all you young LCpls and Cpl know what that means. It means the Corps has checked the list twice and as long as you were nice you may be getting promoted. The Marine Corps has released the cutting scores for Corporals and Sergeants. For those of you that didn’t make the cut this month continue orking and your composite score and you will make the grade.

Devil’s Matchmaker

A few weeks ago I was approached by Jeremiah from Devil’s Matchmaker Clothing about a new T-shirt line that is targeted at Marines. I looked at their website and was impressed by their style. Jeremiah was gracious enough to send me on of the T-shirts and Imust say that they are definately a good product. Currently Devil’s Matchmaker offers three different shirts and they are all Marine. I really like the fact that while they are directed towards Marines they are not the typical “Uncle Sam’s Miguided Children” and other motard shirts you see all the boots wearing around. These shirts have their own style and top-notch.

Josh is one of the owners of Devil’s Matchmaker Clothing and joined the Marine Corps in 2007 and was the inspiration for these brothers starting their company. Along with designing a good product they also donate $1 to Marines helping Marines for every T-shirt that they sell. The Money is Running Out

A few months go I posted about the Marine Corps’ Selective Re-enlisment Bonus (SRB) for fiscal year 2010. I mentioned that Marines would be eligible for up $90,000 to re-enlist. Well it seems that the money is starting to run out. In fact MarAdmin 471-09 listed several MOS’s that would not have a bonus available after 1 Oct. Now MarAdmin 590-09 states that even more MOS’s will loose eligibility for a re-enlistment bonus in the next 30 day. The MOS’s that will soon be loosing eligibility are:

Do You Trust Me

“Do You Trust Me?”

These were the last words that Cpl Matthew Nelson asked LCpl Patrick Malone right before he blew his head off. Yes you read that right while deployed a Marine was killed by another Marine. You see these Marines were playing a game. A game with a loaded pistol that they called Trust.

How to Play

Playing Trust was simple enough albeit stupid. A senior Marine takes his pistol removes the magazine aims it at a subordinte and asks “do you trust me?” The subordinate answers (usually) in the affirmitive, and then the superior pulls the triggers and everyone laughs.

What went Wrong?

Unfortunately in this case everything went wrong. Cpl Nelson didn’t have a safe weapon and when he pulled the trigger the hammer went home on a round. The 9mm round went through LCpl Malone’s forehead and less than 20 minutes later the junior Marine was dead.

This “GAME” if you can call it that is the stupidest thing that a Marine can do. It is against every weapons rule that is beat into our heads by our Drill Instructors for 13 weeks of Boot Camp. Then reitterated by the NCO’s at MCT and SOI and every day that we ever handle a weapon. Those weapos safety rules are repeated every day that you are on a rifle range. Those rules are as follows:

1. TREAT EVERY WEAPON AS IF IT WERE LOADED.

2. NEVER POINT A WEAPON AT ANYTHING YOU DO NOT INTEND TO SHOOT.

3. KEEP YOUR FINGER STRAIGHT AND OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO SHOOT.

4. kEEP YOUR WEAPON ON SAFE UNTIL YOU INTEND TO FIRE.

So as you can see the Marines that are out there playing this so-called game are in violation of every rule that we are taught.

How to Stop this Game?

How can we stop this game. This is something that must be nipped in the bud NOW. This is a game that cannot keep on going. One Marine has lost his life and at least three others have lost careers, rank, money etc. with more to be charged. It is the responsibility of the NCO to protect the Marines under their charge. Not point weapons at their heads and pull the trigger on a loaded chamber.

ANY MARINE THAT IS PLAYING THIS GAME NEEDS TO STOP. ANY MARINE THAT SEES THIS GAME GOING ON NEEDS TO SAY SOMETHING AND MAKE IT STOP. IF THE GAME CONTINUES YOU MUST REPORT IT. WE DO NOT NEED TO LOOSE ANOTHER MARINE TO A STUPID GAME LIKE THIS.

October Cutting Scores

TIme has come again for that Marine Corps to promote those well deserving LCpl’s and Cpl’s to the next rank. On Oct 1st 2009 the Marine Corps will welcome a multitude of new Corporals and Sergeants to the NCO ranks. Please help me recognize and congratulate these Marines.

Approved Selections to SSgt

Early last week the Marine Corps released the list of approved selections to SSgt. Right now there are over 3300 Sergeants that are happier than a pig in shot. Please help me in congratulating these Sergeants. The list can be founfound here on MARADMIN 560/09.

You Might be a DOUCHE BAG if…

Some of you may be aware of the following email that I received the other day. It has been making its rounds not just through my shop but around the Corps as well. Bottom line don’t be a poser becaue you will get caught and you might not be as lucky as this kid.

Another poser!

GySgt Ableman was keen enough to spot this {fill in the blank} walking
through the Reno Airport in full dress blues with gloves and cover on.
He
stopped him near the baggage claim and running into three Drill Instructors
wasn’t something this guy had anticipated.

If any of you know Gy Ableman, this kid was lucky to leave with all his
teeth intact. From the get go, it was obvious this kid was not a Marine.
He claimed to be a PFC (wearing LCpl chevrons) and could not explain what a
PFC chevron looked like and then couldn’t explain the NCO stripe on his
trousers. He had a collar emblem in the middle of his barracks cover and
his belt was sticking out.

No ribbons or badges, his trousers were way too long, not to mention he had
on Sketcher boots instead of dress shoes and a civilian belt. We found this
out after we demanded that he take off the blouse and cover.

Turns out he bought the uniform from a surplus store and his Dad is a
retired Navy Chief. Reno is a super-pro military area and this guy was
soaking in the atta-boys. Lot of posers out there, watch out!

Know any recruiters in the San Diego and Reno areas, send them a warning to
watch out for this XXX-XX.
